“I’m not a comfortable gardener. As a writer, I’m more at ease with building worlds with language that grows something inside me.”
The above is an excerpt from an article I wrote that was recently published in Toronto magazine Shedoesthecity.
We all know our creative acts come in different forms. And after getting involved in an urban garden project, it was interesting to learn the relationship between writing and gardening. Specifically, how both draw a person into the nature of seasons and into relating to things not on their own, but in symmetry to what surrounds them. And, AND that fresh new flourishes of anything involve a lot of waiting, weeding, withering and, of course, dying.
If you’re interested, you can read the full story.
You can also come to our event at the gorgeous Lobby gallery by Heaps Estrin in Rosesdale, Toronto! There, we’ll be raising funds for the art in the garden project I’m leading with the urban farmers of Thorncliffe Park, one of the more interesting parts of the city. And we’ll be soaking in some great art and stories. Be prepared to feel, laugh and see the Queen (yes, this is true). Details below! If you can’t make it, consider supporting the project by donating to my Go Fund Me to keep the workshops going!
Thank you.x
This is such a wonderful and much needed program for the community. Congratulations Nadia! Looking forward to the event.
